The Original H1 Alnico is my personal favorite.. with my Dr. Z Carmen Ghia driving them, the tone is so warm and 3-dimensional.

I've never tried the H1. I'm sure it's a good one too... Have you tried the H1E? I'd love to hear your opinion of the difference.

^^^ Yes, I've had a couple of H1E Alnicos. The differences between the H1 and H1E are subtle, I think. For me, the H1 feels more organic and warm. I think it sits in-the-pocket a little better.. and this is good for me, since I find myself playing rhythm mostly. I have a spare 1x12 cabinet, loaded with an H1.. too bad there's about a thousand miles between us bro...

How you do you know which one you have? All I know mine sounds great! ..haha.. how old is yours? If you bought it within the past 5 or 6 years, and didn't specify the Original H1, then you've got an H1E. The H1E has been sold as the "standard" Alnico for a few years now. But, you can still specify the Original H1.. sort of a special order, but usually just a few days on the turn-around.

^^^ Yea, the H1 is the original Hemp formula.. the H1"E" is just the H1 after the cone has been dipped in a special Enzyme, which promotes more treble frequency response. So, yea.. the H1 is darker. Here's a simple breakdown.. H1 = Original Hemp.. H1E = Hemp dipped in Enzyme (brighter than H1).. H1E-DD (Black Frame) = Hemp double-dipped in Enzyme (brighter than H1E)...
