While working with Craig Anderton's Passive Tone Control circuit.. and building it in a very compact and toneful little pedal package.. I discovered that a simple Hi-Cut sounds great right after it in the signal chain. I mean the super-yummy soulful-bluesy type of great! So, I've built this little jewel.. a Bypass'able 5-way Hi-Cut switch in a tiny 1590A box. It just selects a Cap value for cutting high frequencies.. from subtle to dark. I'll snap some gut shots and post them here soon. Positions:10:00 = 0.0010 uf 11:00 = 0.0022 uf 12:00 = 0.0047 uf 01:00 = 0.0100 uf 02:00 = 0.0220 uf The 10:00 position only has a very subtle affect, and the 02:00 position is a bit too dark for me. I think the 12:00 position is the "sweet spot" for my current set-up. 11:00 and 01:00 are usable too. Gorgeous tone with my Esquire, Ghia, and H1 Tubby! If anyone has comments or advice on improvements.. I'd love to hear it.

Close quarters. Side-by-side with my Vari-Box (Passive Tone Control).. the Vari-Box is the same size as a standard MXR pedal. The Hi-Cut is 1.5" wide. I'm sure I could get both circuits in the MXR sized box.. with a little effort. It could be the ultimate Passive stompbox [for me]. This little combo is such a sweet frequency shaper.. not harsh or dramatic peaks and dips.. just sweet and simple shaping. ;D
