I traded off my Diaz Texas Square Face fuzz box a while back and lately I've been jonesing for some fuzzy goodness. I'm looking at Analogman's Sunface and Peppermint fuzzes but I'm still unecided. Any of youse guys got a fav-o-rite fuzz box?
PS: I do prefer germanium transistors.

I've had 3 Sunface's and a Peppermint Fuzz. I returned the Peppermint. It was just too raw and buzzy. (Just what it is supposed to be). I liked my Beano Boost better than my first 2 SUnfaces, but still kept wanting one, so I got one more and it's not going anywhere. It seems to sound sweeter than the other 2 as well.. All three were/are NKT275's as well.... I also got an aNaLoG.MaN AstroFuzz that I absolutely love so much, I bought a 2nd one to put away for when Mike runs out of those Fairchild transistors. ;D It, however is a silicon, but sounds so smooth and FAT...more of a distortion/fuzz sound.... Good luck!~

I had an MI Audio Neo fuzz for a long time and kick myself for selling it to this day. It's germanium and it is very tweakable. Doesn't clean up quite as well as a Fuzz Face, but it's close.

So, a general Fuzz question for you guys.. ..with a Sun Face or Neo Fuzz or Astro Fuzz, are the sweet tones available without a huge boost? I ask because my Beano Boost sounds awesome, when it's LOUD.. I have it stashed for now.

Well...they always sound better with a bit of a volume boost, however, with that said, the SunFace at full volume is not that much of a boost. Nothing like the Beano as far a volume boost. Again, though, a BIG feature of this type fuzz in the ability to clean up quickly with the guitar volume roll back.....

Well after watching a bunch of gearmandude clips on youtube and finding a good deal on a used one I bought a Plum Crazy FX Fuzzy Lady. I'll hopefully get it in a few days. Thanks for the advice guys!

Got the Fuzzy Lady a little ago and it took about 10 minutes to get it dialed in with the Ghia sitting just on the verge of breakup. It'sdefinitely got THAT tone! Very cool so far. If you're in the market for a fuzz I have two words for you... BIAS POT! Definitely a useful tool I've been missing. I'll try to report back after the honeymoon.

Thought I'd play around with the Fuzzy Lady and my Blues Deluxe tonight while the ol lady was away and I came across a definite advantage to the Diaz Square Face I sold.
When I had the Square Face cranked I would pick up a Spanish radio station. With the Deluxe at about 2:00 on the clean channel and the fuzz on about 3:00 (LOUD) I picked up the local classic rock station and could clearly hear Heart's Edge Of Seventeen. Definite improvement!
BTW the town I live in is the highest point between the Rio Grande and the Red River so I am surrounded by radio towers so I'm pretty sure all fuzz boxes would get some interference here. At least this one speaks English!
