Anybody compared the 2 alnico speakers? I have both and will do the comparison before too long.

Honestly, I have not done a side-by-side comparison.. let us know about your findings... The only non-Tubby speaker that I own these days is a 12" Weber Sig Ceramic.. in an old ragged 1x12 cabinet.. so I'll have to depend on you for the comparisons.

I've compared the Tone Tubby AlNiCo 12", Celestion Blue and Weber Blue Dog, which may be helpful. You can read the review at the following link: www.svvintageamps.com/speaker.php#question22 To my ears, the Gold has more bottom end and a more raw, edgy sound than the Blue. Hope this helps! Thanks Scott...I do remember reading that now. Your site has a wealth of information and I've bought all my Tubby's from you and various tubes....I'll be back!

Thanks for that Scott, I am thinking hard about replacing my Blue with a Tubby... The blue is just a little too loud and can be a bit ice picky.

Blue has brighter, crisper highs, whereas the TT AlNiCo 12" is warmer, smoother, has more rounded highs, and a bit more bottom end.
Both are great speakers, just depends on the characteristics that best meets your needs!

I switched the Blue out in my Dr Z Maz Jr and like you say, the fully broken in TT AlNiCo has a warmer smoother tone, but has less low low end than the Blue... I wonder why this is? I was not too happy at first, but after a few weeks...the TT sounds wonderful!! ;D
