I have a H1E AlNiCo in a Dr Z Maz Jr and I love the tone, color, and dynamic range. However, I secretly have been egnoring the "cone cry" I am experiencing on high F#, A# and C# notes. One of the selling points with Tubby's is no cone cry. I bought this speaker new from Scott at SVVA. I originally had it in an Allen Accomplice and it had the cry in it as well. I'm wondering if this speaker is defective or is this just a normal thing with this type of speaker? I had a Celestion Blue in this amp before and it had the same cone cry. I used EVM speakers exclusively for years and never had this problem. I have another H1E I'm gonna swap and see if that helps. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem??

Definately let us know about your findings Mark. This is the first time I've ever read that a Tubby was crying. I've not heard any crying with my Alnico H1 and Ghia. I'd call Scott @ SVVA if I were you.. He's a true speaker expert, and super nice guy [which you already know].

Hi Mark,
I don't really have any data to feed back to you. I've sold over 3,500 TT speakers and have never had anyone complain of cone cry with a TT speaker. The hempcones just aren't prone to cone cry like paper cones. I'm at a loss on this one, which is pretty rare for me.
Since it is happening with the same speaker in different amps and different speakers (e.g. Blue) in the same amp, I'd start with looking at something else in your chain as the offending culprit.
Or, maybe describe what you are hearing, maybe is is something else??

Thanks Scott... Maybe it's not cone cry...but it's the only thing I could think of. WHen I hit the high notes as mentioned above, I get these humming overtones that sound like the speaker being overloaded. I tried the amp through a Celestion Gold and it was there, but not near as bad. Another guy suggested a tube socket problem. I'll look at that, but this speaker did the same thing with in another brand/type amp... I love this speaker and this amp...I've been silent about this problem, but I thought I'd come out of the closet and see what ya'll thought.. Thanks for the help~

I have to agree, it's not cone cry. Neither of my TTs do it. Really thin coned speakers do it. I have a Jensen Field Coil 15" that came in a 1950 Fender Pro, it's cone is as thin as notebook paper and it cries like crazy. I alo have a pair of Celestion ndym twelves from Celestion's first generation o Century ndyms. Those things are useless because they cry so much. I need to see if Broun Soun will hemp cone them for me..............

I'd like to hear your thoughts, if you do get around to re-coning sometime.
